Nick and Norton, SF art gallery owners and men about town, are pulled in to solve the mystery of a stolen Picasso painting. Norton’s sister, Kate, has been accused of stealing the painting from her estranged husband. Nick and Norton know that she couldn’t have done it. The suspects range from a jealous painter, to a sleazy art dealer, to a security consultant with a disreputable past.
Nick Callas and Norton Lathrop, noted gay couple in San Francisco society, own and operate a San Francisco art gallery. Using their contacts in high and low places, along with their military intelligence experience, they investigate the theft of the Picasso painting they sold to the victim.
Taking place in the San Francisco art world, the quick paced story is an homage - with a gay twist - to Dashiell Hammett’s Thin Man novel and the popular series of movies from the ‘30s and ‘40s. Nick and Norton’s investigation takes them from suburban strip malls to run down rural estates. They won’t rest until Norton's sister is exonerated.

I really enjoyed this book. The plot is stylishly retro, and reminds me of some of Agatha Christie's "Parker Pyne" mysteries. The story: When a valuable painting is stolen, a married San Francisco couple -- Nick & Norton -- are swept up in the investigation. Norton's sister seems the most likely suspect, as she had means, motive, and opportunity. Worse, the police seem satisfied with the evidence against her.
Now it's up to Nick and Norton to dig deeper into the mystery, and uncover the real thief.
I read (and liked) this story when Ackroyd offered it to beta readers, but it needed a few tweaks.
So, I eagerly bought this book as soon as I saw it in Kindle, because I wanted to savor the story again... but also see which elements changed. On both points, I'm very pleased.
If you like stylish cozies with lots of local color & atmosphere, this is a fun, light read, with clever nods to Dashiell Hammett's characters, Nick and Nora Charles.
I can hardly wait for the next book in this series. Ackroyd's writing mixes fresh story elements and vintage flair with just the right balance. Nick and Norton are charming and witty, and I wasn't sure "whodunnit" until the end of the story.

The Case of The Purloined Picasso A Nick and Norton Mystery edition by Dorothy Ackroyd Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I thought from the preview the mystery sounded intriguing but the reality was much less so. The characters were poorly defined, and mostly undeveloped. Perhaps there is a previous book which fills in all the background but I constantly felt like something was missing from the story and characters. Not a story I would recommend to anyone.
Super collection of characters all with good amount of space to develope they selves, thanks can not wait for the next book
