Anyone who's run a marathon knows it is both a physical and spiritual endeavor. The Pronator follows one runner, middle-aged, middle-of-the-pack, Jay, as he pursues his goal of running a marathon in under four hours. For him, beating his old time is as daunting a challenge as winning itself. However solitary contender Jay may be, he is never alone. His memories, dreams, and even his God keep pace alongside him as he pursues his personal horizon.

I am not a runner but I still found the book very enjoyable and realistic. The book follows Jay's thoughts as he tries to set a new personal best for a marathon. It was interesting in that he is only an average runner and the only record he wants to break is his own. You can tell that real runner wrote this book. What makes the book interesting are Jay's thoughts about the other runners plus the random personal memories that crop up during the long run.
I observe many runners with earbuds listening to music as they run - they will probably unplug after reading this book. Maybe we all need 4 quiet hours to let memories surface and be re-examined.
I think runners, Catholic ( current and former), Christians and those whose school experiences were not the best will find this a satisfying read.

The Pronator edition by RS Chase Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
My husband talked me into reading this book so I could learn more about why he loved the experience of running and what it meant to him. I can truthfully say that I have been enlightened. This book demonstrates the intellectual, emotional and spiritual aspects of running. As I read Jay's story, I felt a part of his experiences and understood that running was more than mere adrenaline addiction. I highly recommend to both runners and their families.
Someone mentioned what we are is the sum total of the people we have known and the education we get. Jay has 26.2 miles of running to think on these things. Central to all is the seemingly rocky path to our Savior Jesus Christ. Those raised in Catholic families and educated in Catholic schools form a cult of shared struggles. Well written.
